Peruvian costal region

The Peruvian Pacific coastal region is a very long, thin desert strip stretching for 1,555 miles or 2,500 km but extending inland for only 12 – 60 miles (20–100 km) before meeting the secondary ridges of the Andes Mountains. Average annual rainfall is only 1.1 in (28 mm) however, due to irrigation systems, Lima and other cities and towns are able to thrive.
