Structures of Wood Cells on Mars

Last edited on Dec. 7, 2024

Original photo: mars.nasa.gov/raw_images/1411199/?site=msl

Original description: Using an onboard focusing process, the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) aboard NASA's Mars rover Curiosity created this product by merging two to eight images previously taken by the MAHLI, located on the turret at the end of the rover's robotic arm. Curiosity performed the merge on December 5, 2024, Sol 4384 of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, at 17:38:58 UTC. The focus motor count position was 12842.

Note: I rotated the original photo by 180 degrees, changed its colors with the Zeke filter and then enlarged it by 800%.

Red arrows point to circles/rectangles that resemble the structures of wood cells in cross section.

A blue arrow points to a sphere.

Note the protrusions in the figure.
