Volesky handed over command of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to Poppas during a change of command ceremony, Jan. 19 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Poppas' career has spanned more than two decades, much of which was spent at Fort Bragg as and 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper. Assignments here include logistics officer, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Abn. Div., from 1993 to 1994; Commander Company B, 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, from 1994 to 1996; Commander of the Advanced Airborne School, 82nd Abn. Div., from 1996 to 1997; operations officer 2nd Bn., 504th PIR, 82nd Abn. Div., from 2000 to 2001; operations officer 1st Bde., 82nd Abn. Div., from 2001 to 2002; commander of 3rd Bn. 505th PIR, 82nd Abn. Div. from 2005 to 2006; Commander 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn.
