Speckled Sharpshooter (Paraulacizes irrorata)
05 Sep 2016.
Buckingham Springs, Bucks Co, PA.
Leafhoppers are a family of tiny bugs that seem to have an endless variety of patterns and colors, making them pleasing subjects for macrophotography. This Speckled Sharpshooter lives on the sap inside the stem of various plants. It was very aware of my presence, and kept shuffling to the opposite side of the stem to hide. I used my hand to chase it back to my side to get the photo. Eventually tiring of our little game, it "hopped" to another stem a distance away.
