Bat Detector - Haleakala
Haleakala has bats. We've been lugging bat detectors around, and virtually every night we've put detectors out we've detected bats.
The bats are present in low numbers (<50 pulses per night), are generally passing through (long drawn out pulses), and appear to be roosting elsewhere (show up late at night).
This detector is near the top of the Halemauu Trail, facing into the Koolau Gap. We made the mistake of placing it on this metal fence, which transmitted the ultrasonic sound of every rain drop hitting it.
