One of the NATO 'Joint Warrior' fleet the Italian Frigate 'Aviere' leaves the Clyde. ( Aviere meaning Aviator ).

She is a variation of the Lupo Class with a unique telescopic hangar. Most of these ships were built in the early 1990's and middle-aged in naval terms.

US EMBARGO VESSEL HISTORY

She never did enter service for the Iranian Navy as the THI QAR in Dec 1984 as the procurement never materialised due to the US embargo of Iran at the time.

After a few years in Mothballs she was Taken-in-Hand by the #ItalianNavy to be extensively refitted to their standards but not fully Commissioned until Jan 1995
