The Puffer Vital Spark was made famous through BBC Scotland's local sitcom back in the black and white TV days of the 1960s and based on the antics of crafty Skipper Para Handy and his motely crew's exploits and escapades crewing their Clyde Puffer down the Clyde and out to the Western Isles

 

Beached in Inveraray Harbour Argyll and has been there since October 2008 and takes the odd voyage.

The 'Puffer' is very much imbedded in Scottish social and maritime history.

 

Over 100 of these Department of War Transport Coastal Victualling Steam Lighters were built throughout WW2 better known as the VIC
