2013-08-22 8:55am Please welcome nine new members of our swamp family [Explored]
The hen came out and went back in five or six times before she finally dropped to the water. I was in a small blind in the backyard with two digiscoping set-ups. When she finally dropped to the water my heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my ears!
You can hear the (loud) shutter of the 2nd camera that I was using to shoot photos. It took #9 as long to get out of the box as it did all of the first eight. I've condensed this five-minute sequence into two minutes. If you tend to bite your nails, you might want to put on a pair of gloves before you hit "Play"!
This was digiscoped using the Panasonic GH3 with the 20/1.7 lens on the Swarovski STX95 scope. Equivalent focal length was approx. 1800mm.
Follow-up: I'm so touched by the number of views that this video has had, and by your comments letting me know that you were rooting for #9, and that you watched it with your children and grandchildren. Thank you!
October 30, 2013 update: Today I saw the hen and 6 "teenage" Wood Ducks in the swamp. I am 99% sure it is this hen from her eye ring markings and the age of the young ducks. They would be flying now, and it appears that 4 or 5 are females. I hope to get some close photos from my blind soon. I can't help wondering if #9 is out there...
