DC art and food adventure with Maria Amelia

Despite the constant rainy and gray weather throughout the DMV Saturday, I had a fantastic time taking in some amazing art (and food). My partner-in-crime yesterday was Maria Amelia, who suggested we check out the “Many Wests” exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, perhaps my favorite of the Smithsonians. I briefly browsed through this exhibit earlier in the year with my friend Kent, but I’m glad to have slowed down and get a closer look this time around to better appreciate this beautifully curated show. Afterwards, we went to China Chilcano by José Andrés for some Peruvian cuisine that was beyond words. Besides the food being so delicious, I would gladly support anything by José Andrés, who is a modern day hero of sorts, and simply a good human being. For round two of the Saturday art adventure, we made an impromptu stop by Morton Fine Art to see an extraordinary solo exhibit by Howard University M.F.A. grad, and local artist Amber Robles-Gordon, whose powerful and beautiful series The Temples of My Familiars was truly a sight to behold. If you like great art and happen to be in the DC area any time soon, I highly suggest catching both exhibits while you can, and definitely getting something to eat at China Chilcano! #smithsonianamericanartmuseum #nationalportraitgallerydc #chinachilcano #joseandres #washingtondc #mortonfineart #dmvartists #art #artexhibit #artwork #manywestsartistsshapeanamericanidea #smithsonianmuseum #artistsoninstagram #artistoninstagram #artmuseum #artexhibit #peruviancuisine #peruvianfood
