a prairie home companion

i spent about 36 hours last weekend driving a big loop around the province with my camera strapped to my face.

five minutes from home i chanced upon this as the sun set and a storm rolled in. i'd tried for something similar-ish five minutes prior, but the sun went behind a cloud as i was setting up, so i was watching it balefully (see what I did there?) silently commanding it to obey my will.

when I knew the sun was about to come out, i spotted this scene next to the highway, jammed on the brakes, and leapt heroically from my vehicle. (by which i mean i stumbled clumsily into 100km/h traffic, lurched back onto the shoulder of the highway, and almost fell face first into the ditch.)

as i ran toward the field, i had to go straight through a 6' wide patch of knee high thistles and scratched the bejeebers out of my shorts-clad legs. did i mention that i'm allergic to thistles? i mean really, you can walk outside and point at something green and i'm allergic to it, but thistles are evil.

but i got the shot.

also, i love this province.
