Old Man of the Redwood

Deep in the Redwoods along a creek next to a burned down cabin he looks out with his enigmatic grin.

 

Old Man in the Tree or Tompte is a redwood sculpture next to Uvas Creek done by Emil Janel in September 1948. He used a plain wood axe. The sculpture stands on the site of a cabin that was washed away in 1967.

 

Emil Janel a native Swede. His specialty was wood carving. Several exhibits were shown at major galleries in CA and NY.
