interior profile and a mandrel

The metal part is a mandrel for making a natural horn mouthpiece using sheet metal soldered into a cone then drawn over the mandrel. The white part is the interior profile of an original natural horn mouthpiece, moulded using 'polymorph'.

The mouthpiece form starts about 1cm from the bottom of the steel mandrel so it's not quite as inaccurate as it looks. It's the first mandrel that I've tried to make (at that, it's also the first substantial piece I've tried to make with my lathe) so it is a 'variation on a theme' rather than an exact copy.

Perhaps it's a mistake to try too hard for precision: the original mouthpiece was slightly irregular inside, and handmade parts are always slightly different from one another.

That said, I'll try for more accuracy in the future.
