A Rock...?

Wait.. no... a great horned owl! This is a special image to me. I've been camping since before I was born (literally, I mean, if you can call that camping). In that twilight hour I so often hear the eerie calls of great horned and other owls. I find their feathers around camp and see their pellets under trees, but I never actually get to see them. The only time I've seen owls up to this point was when I specifically knew where one was hanging out. Then this weekend, on a trip to the Alabama Hills, I heard one hoot at mid day. I hooted back, and he returned my inquiry, and then even flew out to check me out! I quickly grabbed my gear and scrambled up several (car sized) boulders to get this vantage point. He posed for a while in the nice reflected light, albeit a bit far away. But fortunately the rock was rather photogenic, so as per my usual style, here he is in his habitat :)
