650/730: Red Gate's 12th Birthday

Bit of a departure from the norm today, but it's been a pretty incredible day.

First off, it's become my duty to take the company photograph every year where I work: Red Gate.

Each year it gets harder and harder to do something different and the number of people working there is forever increasing. This is our 12th birthday photo.

To take this, I strapped my camera with my fisheye lens to the radio mast of an outside broadcast vehicle (called Flossie). Not just that, but a rucksack including my laptop bound on with bungee cords. This was hoisted 50ft into the air where we then remote desktopped into the laptop so I could adjust some of the camera settings.

To be honest, it was terrifying to see my camera so horribly exposed at the end of a giant aerial, swaying a bit in the wind.

Lots of help from people to make this photo happen, with extra special thanks to Rob and Marine. Thank you.

What's more, I was snapping shots every 5 seconds so I should be able to post the time lapse of this that's arguably better than the photo itself.

So that was one part of the day.

The second is that Red Gate is sending someone into space.

Yes, space.

It's been a long top-secret project but it finally went public today. If you work as a database administrator, or if you know a database administrator, make sure they check out www.dbainspace.com so they can win a trip to space. Seriously. Space. The company I work for is awesome.

Anyway.

Top day.

Yup.

Anyway...er maybe you'd love to:
