Ibiza 1972 | Kodak Ektachrome

So, I'm doing my annual house- and cat-sitting stint for my parents in Reading at the moment, and I've brought my Epson V550 Photo scanner home with me in order to go through some of the Beard family photographic archives which are calling out to be preserved digitally.

Last night I scanned a big batch of colour slides from the early 70s. I have to admit to being blown away with the quality of most of them; very sharp and they stood up very well to the 4800 DPI scan resolution I've opted for.

Most of them are of my parents and various family members, so I won't be posting them on Flickr, but here's a nice dusk seascape from my parents' holiday to Ibiza in 1972. This isn't quite as sharp as some of the shots taken in bright light, but I love the colour rendition. My dad reckons these were shot on Kodak Ektachrome slide film with his Braun Paxette camera.

I haven't done much Photoshopping to any of them, but removing all the dust and scratches by hand turns out to be quite a laborious process; I'd rather not use plugins to remove them as this tends to compromise the sharpness. But it is taking between 5-10 mins per image to clean up!
