Back Road Nocturne, Dwarf Kentucky
Driving through the fog cloaked West Virginia / Kentucky borderlands as night sets in one stumbles across many eerie scenes like this. As my colleagues stopped to smoke, I thought I'd take a quick shot with the camera on the ground, looking across the muddy, broken asphalt.
This is somewhere between Dwarf and Fisty (pronounced "Feisty") in a stretch of country with a more than generous dose of wild small town names. It's well worth checking out a map of the area just by way of curious, back road Americana.
I hope the uneasy feel of the setting comes across to some extent. Winding through glads of densely packed bare trees, wreathed in mist and rain, with distant lights slanting out from lonely trailers there were many more shots I'd have liked to take, but setting up in the middle of the road with a tripod on a blind corner never seemed an especially wise idea. There were a few twitching curtains even here.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic start to their weekends.
