Belair Cemetery, Pointe La Hache, LA.

Belair Plantation was acquired by Dymond and Lally, a New York firm, in 1868 when it was auctioned at a sheriff’s sale. John Dymond moved to Louisiana that year, and shortly thereafter founded the Louisiana Planter and Sugar Manufacturer, a publication designed to promote the state’s sugar industry. Dymond’s papers, now part of the Historic New Orleans Collection, chronicle post bellum Louisiana, the rise of the sugar cane industry, the struggle to maintain tariffs on sugar through the 1880s, the establishment of the Louisiana Sugar Planters’ Association, and the creation of the Sugar Experiment Station in Audubon Park (1886). Very little is known about this cemetery, most graves are marked by handmade markers and bare no information.
