Controlled Fire

A controlled burn at Princess Point in Hamilton, Ontario.

 

The controlled burn is to mimic the natural burning that occurs in Oak savannah grassland areas. It is a natural thing that replenishes the nutrients in the soil, gets rid of un-native species, and in many cases activates seeds in the soil to start germination so new oak trees can grow.
