This week, we’re celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Piccadilly line extension to Heathrow. This new service was advertised with these ‘Fly the Tube’ posters, which mixed elements from planes (including the supersonic Concorde) and the 1973 stock trains used on the Piccadilly line. Additional Underground stations at Heathrow were opened in 1986 and 2008, and next year, the airport will become even more accessible when the Elizabeth line opens.
