CN GTW 5855 - 6/30/1996
The same CN/GTW train that could be seen a short distance away in my previous post stopped for a meet at South Bend, is now on the move again and has just come off of Conrail and is heading over Lincolnway East to proceed out of town.
This was train 390, powered by a matched set of GTW GP38-2s and as with all CN trains, they had to utilize Conrail trackage for a short distance near downtown before re-entering CN/GTW rails to continue up into the state of Michigan and on towards Durand.
This location has not changed all that much since that June day back in 1996 - and it also appears that the cool “GRAND TRUNK WESTERN” sign is still visible on the railroad overpass as of the 2024 date of this posting. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
