Crossing The Rio Grande

On March 4th, 1988 a westbound Southern Pacific stack train is crossing one of the bridges that took the SPs Sunset route out of Texas, over the Rio Grande River, and into the State of New Mexico. – The nice clean set of four EMD GP60s were only about three weeks old when this shot was taken, and the much less attractive trailing GE B30-7 was nine years old. – That grungy GE was retired in March of 2007, and as of this posting I would think that all of the GP60s would still be at work on the Union Pacific. – This location is just west of El Paso, and I was able to catch the same train slowly passing through the downtown area, that view can be seen in this link to a previous post - flic.kr/p/RAesKz ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
