Conrail 6738 - 7/9/1998

Conrail actually had quite a few EMD SD50s on their roster, and here one of them is leading a very fast moving westbound TV train near Melbern, Ohio the evening of July 9th, 1998.

In looking at a satellite map of the area now I am fairly certain that this was the bridge for County Road 8, and even back then it looked like it had already been closed to traffic for quite some time, (And I am not so sure that I would have chanced driving over if it was still open !)

Just imagine for a moment all of the great steam and diesel powered New York Central trains that passed beneath that ancient bridge – Or for that matter all of the neat old cars, trucks and farm equipment that passed over it. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
