Amtrak On The Duplainville Connection Track
Because of a sizable Soo Line wreck down at Elm Grove that had occurred just a few hours earlier on this August 10th, 1988 - Amtrak’s eastbound Empire Builder is backing through the connection track at Duplainville from the Soo Line onto the Wisconsin Central to be able to continue on down to Chicago as a detour over the WC.
I am sure that both Amtrak and the Soo Line were grateful that day to have had the option for this unusual and unexpected move. – But that choice for any reason between the (now) Canadian Pacific and Canadian National no longer exists, the connection track switch on the CP side was removed on or around August 1st, 2019. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
