The Umbrella Lady of Bandra Reclamation

She lives on blocks of rocks on the side of a road , that enters Bandra Bazar Road or exits from Bandra Bazar Road to Bandra Reclamation , a road that touches the Bandra Sea Link via the Lilavati Hospital close to Rang Sharda.

This ladies story is in pictures at my Flickr photstream as a set by the same name..she sits in the same posture , she bathes she does everything under an umbrella that has gone to seed you can see in the corner of my frame.

She does not talk, sahe has n friends , she was once rich from an affluent family they say, what is her real story nobody knows I have been seeing her in the same place same posture since 6 years.

Even during floods , cloud burst heavy showers even this place was inundated she managed to stay afloat, she is homeless but she has a home the sky is her umbrella , she has no internet connection , she does not get newspapers but she is alive , she gets tea food from people around , I shot her bathing once but after the first initial shot I was embarrassed to shoot further , it shamed me and the values I have been bought up on , I am a street photographer a poet a blogger but I am human to suffering pain.. I have seen bad times so I know the meaning of pain and misery.

I am a pictorial storyteller but I need words sometimes to prop my story..and most of my images at Flickr.com over 200000 are textless , some became poems , and some I updated bought them forward to highlight a particular story that became topical.

I would be helpless without my camera that is a tool I use for poetry and my angst as a photographer..

Because of financial constrains I have not yet upgraded my camera the only camera I have used for several years , but I dont envy those better equipped than me , my camera tells stories, it had conked I got it repaired recently.

But sometimes I wish I was connected to a foreign news agency so I could get some funds and share my stories too, funds to pay the people i shoot , my aim is to get funds through my pictures one day and give the bulk of it to children of prostitutes in red light areas.. the most neglected childhood believe you me ..

Its been ages since I last went to the red light area to shoot , and this is possible because I am close to a few hijra commercial workers soliciting at the Mumbai Hijra cages .
