Most of the houses in Bandra have their own barber who comes home to chop the kids hair.

Cheap and best , and always smiling and adding juicy tidbits as gossip about the neighborhood, he loves to chat with the women folk and they all call him Chacha out of respect for his seniority.

He is the first one to tell you that the butchers daughter ran away with the bakers boy, or the girl in the shanty hung herself with a dupatta from the fan because she did not want to get married to the tailors son.

So the street barber is part of Bandra folklore , and the women of the house offer him jaggery tea that he loves to sip after the haircut.

With the money he saves he will leave for Faizabad just before Ramzan.

He is a migrant Muslim from Uttar Pradesh but a pucca Mumbaikar at heart.
