However small, first step is hardest of all
I've had a lot on my mind today. Just thinking about the state of the world, our country, and the injustices. How people are closed-minded enough to feel others don't deserve the privileges they themselves enjoy because the "others" aren't like them (opponents of same-sex marriages, for example). Or how those who aren't white struggle almost every day because our country is designed to accommodate whites. How a large portion of our country still judges people based on the color of their skin.
Yeah, it's a lot. It's depressing. It's frustrating. It induces a feeling of helplessness, even though I am involved and give back to my community through charity work (www.turningwheelsforkids.org).
But I know I'm not alone in the desire to fight for change. For a better America. And today I'm clinging to a song by my favorite band, and I'd like to share the lyrics with you so you can understand why, and what we have to do.
"You Might Die Trying"
To change the world
start with one step
However small
first step is hardest of all
Once you get your gait
you'll be walking tall
You said you never did
cause you might die tryin'
cause you might die tryin'
cause you
If you close your eyes
because the house is on fire
and think you couldn't move
until the fire dies
The things you never did
cause you might die tryin
cause you might die tryin
you'll be as good as dead
cause you might die tryin
cause you might die tryin
If you give you begin to live
if you give you begin to live
you begin
you get the world
if you give you begin to live
you get the world
you get the world
if you give you begin to live
you might die tryin....
