Rathpeacon

Sunday, 07 April 2013

2614/17 + 2610/13 passes through the former goods yard at Rathpeacon with the 1210hrs Cork to Tralee regional service. There looked to be a healthy number of passengers on the service. An unadvertised €15.00 day return ticket between Cork and Kerry is currently available after 0830 Monday - Saturday and all day on Sundays. On the IÉ website a return ticket costs over €40.

2614/17 was the first 2600 class railcar to wear the silver IÉ livery. 2610/13 is the last 2600 class railcar to still have the green commuter livery.

Cork is allocated two ICR sets for the Kerry services. With the timetable change in January 2013, Tralee sees an extra direct service to Dublin Heuston on Sundays that requires one of the two allocated sets. To this end, a 2600 class set is required on Sundays for some afternoon Cork/Mallow - Tralee services.

Rathpeacon yard is currently seeing a hive of activity in preparation for the Monard Viaduct works.
