Kenworthys, Stamford St, Ashton-under-Lyne (UK) 2013

The former Kenworthy's Jewellers shop now looking rather abandoned, The blue plaque on the upper storey tells how, between 1864 and 1885, this building was the home of Francis Thompson, who was a famous Catholic poet in his day, although his best-known work, "The Hound of Heaven".

 

Beevers solicitors are also abandoned owing to the absence of evidence that client money was and had been properly dealt with and safeguarded.

 

On the 9th of august 2004 Mr Duckworth died in 'tragic and unneccesary' circumstances after he went out with friends to the Universal Club on Stamford Street, Ashton. In the early hours as he was leaving the club, he and Mr Cook began 'punching and shoving' each other in the reception area and Mr Duckworth was ejected. Outside Mr Duckworth confronted Mr Cook. Mr Duckworth was then punched and kicked by Mr Cook and as he tried to walk off he was chased and attacked by a gang of men.Mr Duckworth collapsed and members of the public tried to give him first aid as they waited for an ambulance.

 

He was taken to Tameside General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
