uffizio postale, piazza bologna roma

architecture by mario ridolfi and mario fagiolo, built 1933

probably the best of the four post offices commisioned in the early thirtees as the result of a competition

the site being extremely difficult with streets bordering it on three sides and the fourth facing the busy piazza bologna the building answers with an almost baroque symphony of curves

the result is an extraordinary building that stood out - and still does - as a quiet monument in an otherwise anonymous and orthogonal cityscape
