DB 184 002 || Wittlich

Multicurrent DB 184 002 with the SNCF DEV-AO-coaches ready for departure. The train runs for French military personnel stationed in the area, going home.

In 1974, the initial four current DB 184 002 had serious failure in the DC components and was the first of the class to be converted to a dual-current engine. The locomotive remained in service until October 1, 1994.

Wittlich (D), 28-4-1989.

The five engines of the DB 184 class, dating from the mid sixties, were initially based at Cologne and equipped for four currents to haul trains between Germany and neighboring countries France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, all having different electrification systems. However, using the DC-systems in Belgium and the Netherlands turned out to be a hardship for the DB 184 class. In the late seventies the remaining four engines have been withdrawn from services into Belgium (DB 184 never had any regular services into the Netherlands) and were just as the 184 002 in 1974, converted to dual-current locomotives (or better bifrequency locomotives). In 1979, the engines were moved to Saarbrücken for domestic German trains or services between Germany and the northeast of France and Luxemburg. While the other members were withdrawn in the eighties and nineties, DB 184 003 stayed in service well into the 21st century and was withdrawn in 2002. The engine is part of the collection of the museum in Koblenz.
