A Night to Remember
I took this picture four years ago in Fairview cemetery, Halifax, Nova Scotia, which has the graves of 121 victims of the Titanic, which sank exactly one hundred years ago today. Several ships sailed from Halifax at the time to recover victims of the disaster.
This particular grave has become a kind of shrine - it was surrounded by children's toys when I visited. The mother, Alma, is buried here, but the bodies of the four children were never recovered. I found it very moving.
There has been a lot of razzmatazz here in Belfast accompanying the opening of the new Titanic visitor's centre, but it's important to remember that it was a disaster and many people, including many children, lost their lives that night.
