Rescue Platform 20
The brand new Rescue Platform 20 is now in service! The department’s initiative to enhance public safety led to the formation of the third rescue company dedicated to the 4th battalion, or ARFF battalion. Like the other Rescue Platforms, RP20 is staffed and operated by members of Rescue 20. As the only aerial devices with a bucket, rescue platforms play a special role on the fireground to assist with ventilation, rescue trapped individuals, or provide an elevated master stream. A recent addition to the rescue platform spec includes a deck gun mounted on the driver’s side to help discharge large volumes of water to contain fast growing fires. A triple combination is required to supply the deck gun or elevated platform since rescue platforms do not have a pump or tank. However, Rescue Platform 20 is unique due to the fact that it carries a 60 gal CAFS unit capable of producing 1200 gal of finished foam product to help put out small fires within its district. Rescue platforms are also assigned on technical rescue incidents where the bucket can be used for rescue operations. While these trucks carry the standard truck company tools such as saws, hooks, and fans, rescue platforms also carry additional struts, larger airbags, and special meters.
