Decon 1: Driver's side

She's back! Originally serving as Rescue 1, the recently refurbished 1978 Mack CF returns to frontline service as Decon 1. This particular piece of apparatus operated as Rescue 1 for 12 years prior to being replaced by a 1990 Pierce Arrow Heavy Duty Rescue. Following this period, it was refurbished before being pressed into service as Hazmat 1 and served in that capacity until 2005. It was the reserve hazmat unit for almost 10 years before it was refurbished again this year. Despite many advances with scene lighting, electronic sirens, and the like, the department opted to keep as many details as original as possible. This included retaining the classic B&M Super Chief siren, Federal Signal Aerodynic halogen rotator lightbar, and repainting the compartment doors. Since this apparatus is cross-staffed by Hazmat 1, there was no need for the department to close the open cab, which in turn, saved the department a couple thousand dollars. Upgrades to the apparatus included a new Detroit Diesel DD13 engine and a new rear door for the walk-in compartment
