The Stour Valley Way - Section 2 - Kennington (Ashford) to Canterbury. Blackwall Road.

Section 2 of the Stour Valley Way and an early morning start at Kennington, east of Ashford. The Stour River flowing through Ashford will wait until the Spring to see the populations of Water Vole living there so the walk starts at Kennington. The weather was interesting! The night before it rained, incessantly as the named storm "Debi" blew over. The wind was still blowing a hooley with specks of rain falling from the zooming cloud overhead. The first part the route from Kennington to Wye travels across flat and low farm land criss-crossed with drainage dykes and small spring fed streams. The track was supposed to travel along the Stour River parallel to Connigbrook Lakes on its way to Wye but unknown to me long term engineering works had closed the footbridges that I was supposed to be walking on, poop! Again, unknown to me this was a good thing as because all of the rain we have had over the past few weeks had completely flooded the fields and therefore footpaths I would have been walking on I would have been totally stuck in the mud, literally! I would need to read the maps and re-track the route over the whole day due to the weather and flooding.
