61st PA Infantry

Last Monument on the Right of the Infantry Line of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Hayshire was nice enought to invite me on a tour to Neill Ave. Or as older Gettysburgians call it Lost Ave. Mr. Shultz was kind enough to relate how Neill Ave got the name "Lost Ave". I've always known it as Lost Ave as my Mom and Dad always refered to it as such. It seams that Col. Sheads, a great Educator and American gave it that name to interest his students in History. My Mom was one of those students. She often related to me how much she enjoyed his class. A WWII Veteran he spent his life after the war teaching HS History in Gettysburg as well being a guide. Regrettably he had retired before I reached HS. I only met Col Sheads once at a picnic. Of course in HS I probably wouldn't have had the interest I have now, but maybe I'd have some notes!

Standing here at this monument on this Avenue hearing this made me cry. I cried because I was remembering my mom and dad, and because I was sad that I would not be able to relate the tour and share the pictures with them. Seing Lost Ave has been goal of mine for many many years and I'm very happy to have gone. I think it is a place that should I ever get the opertunity again I would certainly go.

I'm dedicating this picture to my Mom, Dad and Col Sheads. Great people that are no longer with us.

Thank you again Jackie!!
