Teen Center Testimony
The Lift Every Voice For Youth Initiative in Fallbrook was inspired by its Oceanside twin. It came about because the need for greater youth opportunities has been a dominant theme in the more than five hundred visits our volunteer organizing leaders have made to families over the last several years. To supplement our learning from the family visits, we conducted a survey of 400 teens and adults to sharpen our focus on the problems related to youth. The three top problems identified in the family visits and survey were: 1) The need for a teen center (since none existed in Fallbrook); 2) The need of a skate park for the hundreds of teens that skateboard around town and; 3) The need for more affordable sports programs (manily soccer) so that families do not have to hold their kids back from the character-building and health-enhancing benefits of sports.
