The Life of Pi
'Life of Pi' makes the reader reflect on the value of life, the importance of faith and the role of imagination in the way of perceiving reality. The narrator of the story is a 16 year old Indian known as Pi. His family administers a zoo, but decided to leave the country at the height of its political instability, in 70 years. The idea is to change to Canada, hitching a ride on the boat that will transfer the animals. The ship sinks and there are only five survivors - Pi, a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger. It starts around a ruthless struggle for life. Apparently, Pi has no chance to escape of wild animals. He sees all the animals have eaten there remain only until he and the tiger. On the brink of despair, Pi finds that the best thing is to keep the tiger alive and dependent on their care. During the 227 days that is adrift, Pi dedicates his time to stave off hunger and thirst of a tiger on the high seas. Pi realizes that he and the Feline are in the same boat - one needs the other. The book has a story that makes you believe in the existence of God and the completion of this unpredictable adventure contrasts the greatness and mediocrity that coexist in every human being.
