John Zoller G.I. and Great Aunt Ed.

John Zoller NCO Technician 5th Grade.

Almost certainly based in Fowey (or perhaps Truro) 1943-1944 prior to D-Day. I'm certain it was Fowey, as that's the area my relatives come from and the US Naval Advanced Amphibious Training Sub-Base was in Fowey (started Friday 15th October 1943). It had a 1000-man hut camp, 500-man hut camp, shops, laundry, mess halls and galleys, warehouses, utilities, roads, and 150-bed hospital.

Zoller is wearing an Amphibious Force Insignia, so he certainly went through the training. Possibly from Fort Pierce, Florida and part of the Eleventh Amphibious Force, Demolition Unit or other battalion? More research and I'll probably work it out. I should ask Edna for more details, but it was a short relationship with a man who possibly died in battle around 64 years ago.
