Art maker class

Once a week, I mentor Natalina to help her with her french, as well as expand her maker and multimedia skills. In today’s class, she wrote her first few lines of Arduino code and it went really well: she felt really good about it. I also coached her to make a circuit to light up a lantern with a cardboard switch for our Chinese New Year Wonderbox, which was also successful. Natalina completed all the tasks quickly and keeps getting more comfortable with technology. Yay! Based on what we’re learning together, I will adapt some of these lessons for future courses with more students in coming months.

We also reviewed and tweaked our first video storyboard of Violet’s Journey, the fairy tale video that we are creating with her decorated ducks. We’ve now added music and dialog for each act, which gave us a good feel for the final experience:now that we’ve added the sounds, this fairy tale of ours has a lot more emotional depth and richness. We still have a ways to go on the production front: program our wonderbots to move as needed for each scene; shoot more footage of the ducks against green screen; create magical backdrops in Photoshop; superimpose the ducks over the backdrops; edit it all together. We plan to stretch out this work over the next couple months, but it’s already looking (and sounding) really good!
