GREAT MANHATTANS OR ROB ROYS

There is something particularly about top-shelf spirits that impart a gentleman's club atmosphere. No offense to the women, but "unisex" everything has relegated many gender specific places, sights, tastes, and smells to history. It really is a sad loss for both women and men.

Seeing bottles of fine spirits conjures up the smell of overstuffed leather chairs with brass studs, fine cigars and exotic personal pipe tobacco blends, and old world style "man caves.", formerly known as "clubs".

This photo was taken at the Acadia, seen in the photo adjacent to this one. The sparkling bottles attracted me. It's the sign of a well kept bar when the bottles are wiped until they shine . . . usually by the day bartender or swamper.

Not to mention I am quite fond of a good Manhattan or Rob Roy. Here among these few bottles was the guarantee that any one of those two cocktails . . . on the rocks or "up" . . . seltzer "back" . . . would be superb and elegant served in the old world manner.
