The Meteor was one of the first jet fighters to go into operational service during WWII. The RAAF operated 111 of the type from 1946 to the early 70's. Most of them recieved during the Korean war replacing the Mustangs of No 77 Sqn during the war.
Pilots soon found that it was outclassed by the Russian designed MIG-15 which was in use by the communist forces. However the Meteor was highly manouverable at low level and was used in the ground attack role for the duration of the war.
The above example is in location as a guard outside the Officers Mess RAAF Base Forrest Hill, NSW and is part of the Heritage Centre collection.
