The Girl in Toranmal of stoic countenace who also sells lotus flowers
Portrait of a Girl who sells flowers in Toranmal,India
In the extreme northern end of Maharashtra abutting the state of Madhya Pradesh is a land cut off from the influences of the urban Indian state. The region of Toranmal is not so fully cut off that stray visitors can make occasional forays into its vast mountainous areas where even the writ of the Government does not run large and no functionary of the State government may have visited the interiors in the last 100 years. Distances are measured in units of "a day's walk" or more.
Civilization as envisaged in shirts, pants, shoes and intrusive tourists is ongoing as of now and soon the pristine and pure will change to another paradise gone bust. The children wear clothes which obviously were tailored for some others and ostensibly sold as 2nd hand and sans buttons most times.
The predominant community is of the Pawra tribals who mind their own business. Go visit this place and contribute to its loss of innocence.
This is a Pawra girl who sells lotus flowers to people on the road. People who go to temples where the lotus flower is given as homage to the Gods..
Just another day in the jungles of India.
