Mother and Child - Toranmal , Maharashtra
In the extreme northern end of Maharashtra abutting the state of Madhya Pradesh is a land cut off from the influences of the urban Indian state. The region of Toranmal is not so fully cut off that stray visitors can make occasional forays into its vast mountainous areas where even the writ of the Government does not run large and no functionary of the State government may have visited the interiors in the last 100 years. Distances are measured in units of "a day's walk" or more.
Civilisation as envisaged in shirts, pants, shoes and intrusive toursits is ongoing as of now and soon the pristine and pure will change to another paradise gone bust. The children wear clothes which obviously were tailored for some others and ostensibly sold as 2nd hand and sans buttons most times.
The predominant community is of the Pawra tribals who mind their own business. Go visit this place and contribute to its loss of innocence.
Here the mother sitting on the doorstep , oops there is no door as you might notice, seems to be lost in a place not so pleasant. There is a lingering pathos in her features. What do you make of it ?
