Portrait of Dowager Gaddi Nomad

The nomads who roam the cold and inhospitable regions of the Himalayas normally do not descend to the salubrious climate that pervades the valleys of Himachal Pradesh located along the trade route going into Tibet via Kotgarh. The nomads are Gaddis and you can still spot population of sheep and goats, buffaloes and cows on the road with a shepherd or two in tow minding them.

I chanced upon a camping site just below the famous Hatu Peak in Naldhera. I stopped and took some photos while the dowager Gaddi woman sat with a few calves in the open verandah.
