The Little Karen Girl

The little girl, barely 4 years old sat with her mother in a ramshackle village environment imitating what her mother was doing. Making thin straight bamboo slivers in a crooked world of discrimination and exploitation of the indigenous Karen tribals from Burma,

This is in Thailand where the Karen tribal have some shelter from the political storm in Burma but then there is no respite to human greed and exploitation.

Forced into small camps serving as trophy displays for unscrupulous Thai business houses, they continue their life and I guess the long neck culture may soon be a thing of the past.

The Karen tribal women wear long metal sleeves on their necks that force down the shoulders and clavicles giving the impression of a very long neck, an attribute of feminine charm in the community.
