The Smiling Nomad from Tsokar, Ladakh, India

In the days of yore, the Changpa nomads of Ladakh would be wearing traditional sheep or yak wool outer wear but now a days, the windcheaters and the pullovers have invaded their lives as well. I guess every gram of weight gets magnified a thousand times at those altitudes where the air is rare and the cold wind sucks what ever little you can manage to gulp in.

This nomad with a gapped orthodontic visage tells us that maybe there is a perpetual shortage of Vitamin C in their diets and a a result their teeth seem to not flourish so much in life. His smile and laughter inspite of that is infectious and full of life.

Cheers!
