Day 351 of 365
Jan 17 2008
Becca and I in between surgeries... well, actually the last one was canceled. We did an iliostomy takedown and a colostomy takedown (the happiest day of anyone's life - believe me!). We were going to do a segmental colectomy but then the fellow's pager went off and it said "Code Overload." We were like WTF!? It turns out that every single one of the 800 beds at LAC-USC were taken! There was not one free bed for the surgery patients to recover! So all surgeries after 12pm were canceled. I felt so bad for the patient, she had to take a whole bowel prep and sit in the hospital for hours to find out that she has to do it all again in a week. Also I felt bad for the visiting attending since he came all the way from Santa Barbara just to oversee these surgeries and the really important one was canceled. Also unfortunate that probably by next week they'll find the special colorectal surgery camera for tumors (we take photos of tumors to present during conference) which they had lost today and they won't be in need of my sweet camera. *sigh*
