Gatekeeper ant portrait

Camponotus truncatus (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) major worker. Length: 5 mm. The unusual head of this ant is a tool to occlude the entry holes to the nest in the dry wood.

A work made almost a year ago, but published it only in the photomacrography forum. I tried several microscope objectives at different magnification, the results were similar in terms of the image quality.

This one was taken with the Nikon BD Plan 10/0.25 finite objective at around 12x. 191 shots stacked in Zerene PMax. Lit with a single flash, diffused with paper cylinder.
