Supporting indigenous communities in the northern Amazon basin
Before COVID-19, the World Food Programme calculated that 59% of Colombia’s Amazonas population faced moderate or severe food insecurity.
Preventive lockdown measures shut down the local economy, making it almost impossible to earn enough to purchase food and household items.
Thanks to EU support, 2,392 people received food kits containing non-perishable products chosen according to local food habits, which provide 2,100 kcal per person, per day.
