#StrongerTogether: the EU’s Civil Protection response to Coronavirus
It’s not only in-kind assistance that can be mobilised through the Mechanism, but also emergency medical teams.
Following a request from Italy in March 2020 for assistance with medical staff, the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism supported the deployment of medical teams from Norway and Romania to northern Italy.
These teams were sent to reinforce hospitals treating patients struck with coronavirus. The Norwegian team arrived on 8 April 2020 for a twenty-day deployment, where it worked alongside the Italian medical personnel in Seriate, outside Bergamo.
